What are the steps to becoming a volunteer?

Becoming a volunteer is simple! Just follow the steps outlined in our Volunteer Process to get started. What to know more about why volunteering with us is so rewarding? Check out our Benefits of Volunteering page. We're excited to have you join our community!

How old do I need to be to volunteer?

All volunteers must be at least 18 years old to volunteer independently, and at least 16 years old to volunteer with an accompanying guardian.

However, volunteers aged 16 or 17 may volunteer independently only at our Adult Day Center if they provide a signed permission form from a parent or guardian.

Do you have group volunteer opportunities?

Yes, we occasionally, have done-in-a-day group volunteer opportunities from yard clean-up to hygiene kit packing. If you're part of a school, church, or a community organization looking to make a difference, we'd love to partner with you. Please email volunteer@ccmke.org or call 414-769-3402 to learn about current group opportunities.

Do you offer internships?

Catholic Charities offers a range of meaningful internship opportunities for college students throughout the year. Visit our internship program page to see current openings. While these internships are unpaid, they provide valuable hands-on experience, skill-building opportunities, and a change to make a real impact on your neighbors in need.

If you're looking to gain practical experience in a supportive, mission-driven environment, we encourage you to apply. Please send your resume and cover letter to humanresources@ccmke.org to be considered.

I have been assigned community service by the court am I able to fulfill this requirement at Catholic Charities?

At this time, Catholic Charities is unable to accept court-mandated community service volunteers. Our volunteer opportunities require a minimum six-month commitment, as we prioritize building long-term, meaningful relationships between our volunteer and the individuals we serve.

Do I need to attend Safe Environment training before volunteering?  How do I sign up for Safe Environment training?

Safe Environment Training is required for all volunteers who will be working with children. This important training ensures the safety and well-being for the children we serve and helps create a secure environment for everyone.

This certification is valid for five years and qualifies you to participate in any of Catholic Charities volunteer roles involving children.

To learn how to register, please contact us at volunteer@ccmke.org.

Do I have to be Catholic to volunteer?

No, just like the people we serve, we welcome volunteers from all faiths, backgrounds, and cultures to volunteer. Everyone is invited to make an impact their neighbors in need.
